ANOTHER FOUR YEARS - MERDE!!!
Hi Dad,
Paul, Leslie (a friend of ours) and I watched the election coverage with heavy hearts.
We traveled to Paul's parents' house to watch it on their television (Phil and Janet are in Canada right now so the three of us huddled around the set in their spacious beautiful and empty house).
It was like watching a slowly moving train wreck.
With growing horror we witnessed the map of America on the screen as the American states in the heartland slowly turned red (Republican) one after the other and the Democratic states on the edges a deep sad shade of blue.
We all asked, who are these Americans who are giving Bush a second chance?
Didn't they watch the debates? Are they so scared of change? Isn't the situation in Iraq enough to demonstrate what a inept leader Bush is?
We parted in the dead of night...blinking back tears and taking deep
breaths. I was housesitting in the middle of the woods again and I drove
away alone, into the pitch black forest, creaking limbs whispering in the
ghostly wind.
I couldn't help but imagine the earth trembling with fear...another four years and who knows what irreparable damage will be done.
Especially with Republicans controlling the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of government.
This morning broke gray and sad and the afternoon rain seemed to weep from
the clouds like an angel's tears.
We cling to hope with desperation. And there are rays of light in the grim
fallout of the election...
I just returned home from work and it's late and I'm starving...
Paul leaves to join his parents in Vancouver early tomorrow morning so we're going to have some supper together before catching some shut eye.
Sending much love,
Mariko and Paul
